A.11_012 | Dutiya Mahaanaama Sutta | Mahaanaama the Sakyan asks the Buddha, "when living amongst those of various ways, whose way of living should we live?" The Buddha taught that, by being established in five qualities: 1. faith [saddha]; 2. striving; 3. mindfulness; 4. concentration, and; 5. wisdom -- six qualities can be cultivated: 1. recollection of the Buddha; 2. recollection of the Dhamma; 3. recollection of the Sa"ngha; 4. recollection of self-discipline; 5. recollection of self-sacrifice, and; 6. recollection of angels. These recollections should be cultivated while standing. walking, sitting, lying down, while applying yourself in business and even in your home in your lodging crowded with children. | 38/537 | Ekaadasaka Nipaata | A"nguttara | A.i. |
