| AN.VII.65 | Paarichattaka Sutta | Seven stages of maturation of a noble disciple can be compared to seven stages of maturation of the celebrated angelic Paarichatta tree of Kovi.laara namely: 1.the ordination of the disciple can be compared to the yellowing of the leaves; 2. the shaving of the ordinand and the donning of saffron robes can be compared to the falling of the leaves; 3. the attainment of the first absorption can be compared to the appearance of the new buds; 4.the attainment of the second absorption can be compared to when the shoots are set; 5. the attainment of the third absorption can be compared to the forming of the blossoms; 6. the attainment of the fourth absorption can be compared to the "red-lotus" stage of the formation of the blossoms, and; 7. attainment of liberation of mind [cetovimutti] and liberation of wisdom [pa~n~naavimutti] can be compared to the appearance of the full blossoms. | 37/241 | Sattaka Nipaata, Unallocated Pa.n.naasaka | A"nguttara | A.iv. | |
