A.10_085 Katthii Sutta If a monk boasts of adeptness in mental attainments but still exhibits any of the following ten traits, you cannot trust his claims: 1. impure self-discipline; 2. lacking faith; 3. listening to few teachings; 4. insensitivity to self-improvement; 5. associating with fools; 6. laziness; 7. muddle-headedness; 8. pretence; 9. demanding special treatment, or; 10. weakness in wisdom. Don't trust the claims of a monk exhibiting these traits any more than you would trust someone who claims he has money to lend, but when you dig for the money he claims he has hidden find none. However, if a monk can abandon these traits, he will manage to progress in the Dhammavinaya. 38/262 Dasaka Nipaata, Dutiya Pa.n.naasaka A"nguttara A.i.
