| AN.VII.28-30 | Vipattisa.mbhava Sutta | The following seven traits are unprofitable and for the backsliding of laymen [upaasaka]: 1. omitting to visit monks; 2. omitting to hear Dhamma teachings; 3. omitting to study the higher discipline [adhisiila]; 4. omitting to be inspired to faith by monks already ordained for a short, medium or long time; 5. finding fault with the Dhamma teachings; 6. making merit with monastics outside Buddhism, and; 7. showing respect towards monastics of other religions.
