AN.IV.200 | Pema Sutta | There are four sources of love and hatred: 1. love which originates from love: this is when others treat another with affection who we also like, so we have affection for those others too; 2. hatred which originates from love: this is when we receive less affection from others than the next and out of jealousy we develop hatred for those others; 3. love which originates from hatred: this is when others hate someone we also hate, so we come to love those others as a result; 4. hate which originates hate: this is when others express love for someone we hate so we develop hate for those others.
