AN.IV.192 | .Thaana Sutta | There are four different ways to get to know the level of virtue of another person as defined by self-discipline [siila], purity, strength and wisdom. These ways to know a person are namely: 1. their self-discipline is to be known by association; 2. their purity is to be known by living with them; 3. their strength is to be known in times of distress, and; 4. their wisdom is to be known in conversation. However, these qualities can be known only after a long time and by close attention.
