AN.IV.162 Vitthaara Sutta The following modes of spiritual progress are enumerated:
1. painful progress with slow intuition [dukkhaapa.tipadaa dandhaabhi~n~naa] -- those who have abundant greed, hatred and delusion, who must regularly suffer the suffering arising from these and for whom the controlling faculties [indriya] are not yet ripe;
2. painful progress with quick intuition [dukkhaapa.tipadaa khippaabhi~n~naa] -- those who have abundant greed, hatred and delusion, who must regularly suffer the suffering arising from these and for whom the controlling faculties [indriya] are ripe ;
3. convenient progress with slow intuition [sukhaapa.tipadaa dandhaabhi~n~naa] -- those who have little greed, hatred and delusion, who rarely suffer the suffering arising from these and for whom the controlling faculties [indriya] are not yet ripe, and;
4. convenient progress with quick intuition [sukhaapa.tipadaa khippaabhi~n~naa] -- those who have little greed, hatred and delusion, who rarely suffer the suffering arising from these and for whom the controlling faculties [indriya] are ripe.
