AN.IV.123 | Pa.thama Naanaakara.na Sutta | Those who have attained the absorptions [jhaana] can be divided into four categories: 1. those who have attained the first absorption who will attain the Brahma world after death; 2. those who have attained the second absorption who will attain the Brahma world after death at the level of the radiant devas [aabhassara]; 3. those who have attained the third absorption who will attain the Brahma world after death at the level of the ever-radiant devas [subhaki.nha]; 4. those who have attained the fourth absorption who will attain the Brahma world after death at the level of the vehappala devas [vehappala]. Those who attain any of these levels through practice outside the Buddha's teaching, when passing away from that existence in the Brahma world, will fall into the unfortunate realms [abhaayabhuumi] -- however, noble disciples of the Buddha who attain these levels will subsequently enter upon parinibbaana. | 35/325 | Catukanipaata Tatiya Pa.n.naasaka | A"nguttara | A.ii. |
