AN.IV.90 | Khandha Sutta | There are four levels of steadfastness in the virtue of a monk: 1. completely steadfast -- i.e. the arahant; 2. steadfast like a pu.n.darika lotus -- i.e. those who see the arising and falling away of the aggregates of craving [upadaanaakhandha]; 3. steadfast like a paduma lotus -- i.e. those who see the arising and falling away of the aggregates of craving [upadaanaakhandha] and also release [vimokkha 8], and; 4. those who are refined amongst the monastic community -- i.e. those who are contented with the four requisites, who are endearing to their fellow monks, hardly ill, achieved the four absorptions [jhaana] and achieved liberation of mind and wisdom. |
