AN.IV.78 Dakkhi.naa Sutta The purity of a gift depends upon the following four factors:
1. the intact precepts [siila] of the giver;
2. the virtue [kalyaa.nadhamma] of the giver;
3. the intact precepts of the recipient, and;
4. the virtue of the recipient.
If alone the giver is pure or alone the recipient, or neither, the potency of the gift will be reduced. Only if both are pure will the gift give great fruit. 35/236 Catukanipaata Dutiya Pa.n.naasaka A"nguttara A.ii.
