AN.IV.67 Ahi Sutta | Ahiraaja Sutta A certain monk had died as the result of a snake bite. The Buddha taught the monks a protective charm of loving kindness towards the four clans of serpents, namely:
1. Virupakkha royal snake lineage; 2. the Erapatha royal snake lineage; 3. the Chabyaputta royal snake lineage, and; the Dark Gotamaka royal snake lineage. If a monk uses this protective charm regularly, he will be protected from the dangers of snakebites.
