When Mara realizes he has been discovered and is having his thoughts read by Moggallana, he leaves Moggallanas body and perches on the door post of his cell. Moggallana then addresses him and tells how once, he himself was a Mara called Dusi who had roused Brahmin householders against Kakusanda Buddha and his disciples. As a result of that action, Dusi had been born in hell and suffered great torments. Moggallana warns Mara against assailing holy men lest he suffer a similar fate. Mara retires discomfited. |
