J.226 Kosiya Jaataka The king of Benares, making war at an unseasonable time while camping in a park, saw an owl (kosiya) being attacked by crows. The king asked the minister the reason for this -- the minister, who was the bodhisatva, explained that the owl had been attacked because it had left its hiding place at the wrong time (before sunset). The Jataka was told to Pasenadi, when he was making his way to quell a border rising at a time unsuitable for such an enterprise. 57/406 Jaataka Khuddhaka J.ii.208ff. timing
