A.10_214 Overcoming Grasping The following ten practices are appropriate for insight into grasping: 1. contemplation of the loathesome; 2. contemplation of death; 3. contemplation of the loathesomeness of food; 4. contemplation of non-delight with the world; 5. contemplation of impermance; 6. contemplation of the suffering of impermance; 7. contemplation of the "not-self" of suffering; 8. contemplation of abandonment; 9. contemplation of fading interest, and; 10. contemplation of extinction.
The following ten practices are appropriate for insight into grasping: 1. contemplation of the signs of impermanence; 2. contemplation of the signs of "not-self'; 3. contemplation of the loathesomeness of food; 4. contemplation of non-delight with the world; 5. contemplation of a skeleton; 6. contemplation of a worm-eaten corpse; 7. contemplation of a discoloured corpse; 8. contemplation of a fissured corpse; 9. *****, and ; 10. *****.
The following ten practices are appropriate for insight into groups: 1. right view [sammaa di.t.thi]; 2. right intention [sammaa sa"nkapa]; 3. right speech [sammaa vaacaa]; 4. right action [sammaa kammanta]; 5. right livelihood [sammaa aachiiva]; 6. right effort [sammaa vaayaama]; 7. right mindfulness [sammaa sati]; 8. right concentration [sammaa samaadhi]; 9. right knowledge [sammaa ~naa.na], and; 10. right liberation [sammaa vimutti].
The following ten practices are for the reduction and relinquishing of grasping: 1. right view [sammaa di.t.thi]; 2. right intention [sammaa sa"nkapa]; 3. right speech [sammaa vaacaa]; 4. right action [sammaa kammanta]; 5. right livelihood [sammaa aachiiva]; 6. right effort [sammaa vaayaama]; 7. right mindfulness [sammaa sati]; 8. right concentration [sammaa samaadhi]; 9. right knowledge [sammaa ~naa.na], and; 10. right liberation [sammaa vimutti].
The following ten practices are for the reduction and relinquishing of . . . hatred [dosa], ignorance [moha], anger [kodha], *** [upanaha], *** [makkha], *** [palaasa], *** [issaa]; *** [macchariya], *** [maya], *** [saatheyya], *** [thamba], *** [saramba], *** [maana], *** [atimaana], *** [mada] and *** [pamada] -- that is: 1. right view [sammaa di.t.thi]; 2. right intention [sammaa sa"nkapa]; 3. right speech [sammaa vaacaa]; 4. right action [sammaa kammanta]; 5. right livelihood [sammaa aachiiva]; 6. right effort [sammaa vaayaama]; 7. right mindfulness [sammaa sati]; 8. right concentration [sammaa samaadhi]; 9. right knowledge [sammaa ~naa.na], and; 10. right liberation [sammaa vimutti].Those possessing the following forty practices should be considered wise: 1. abstention from killing (paa.naatipaataa verama.nii); 2. persuading others to abstain from killing; 3. approving of abstention from killing; 4. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from killing of others; 5. abstention from stealing (adinnaadaanaa verama.nii); 6. persuading others to abstain from stealing; 7. approval of abstention from stealing; 8. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from stealing of others; 9. abstention from adultery (kaamesumicchaacaaraa verama.nii); 10. persuading others to abstain from adultery; 11. approval of abstention from adultery; 12. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from adultery of others; 13. abstention from telling lies (musaavaadaa verama.nii); 14. persuading others to abstain from telling lies; 15. approval of abstention from telling lies; 16. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from telling lies of others; 17. abstention from malicious gossip (pisu.naayavaacaaya verama.nii); 18. persuading others to abstain from malicious gossip; 19. approval of abstention from malicious gossip; 20. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from malicious gossip of others; 21. abstention from harsh speech (pharusaayavaacaaya verama.nii); 22. persuading others to abstain from harsh speech; 23. approval of abstention from harsh speech; 24. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from harsh speech of others; 25. abstention from idle chatter (samphappalaapaa verama.nii); 26. persuading others to abstain from idle chatter; 27. approval of abstention from idle chatter; 28. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from idle chatter of others; 29. non-covetousness (anabhijjhaa); 30. persuading others to abstain from covetousness; 31. approval of abstention from covetousness; 32. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the abstention from covetousness of others; 33. non-illwill (abyaapada); 34. persuading others to abstain from illwill; 35. approval of abstention from illwill; 36. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the non-illwill of others; 37. right view (sammaa di.t.thi); 38. persuading others to be established in right view; 39. approval of right view; 40. speaking in praise of or rejoicing in the right view of others.
