|A.10_161||Dutiya Adhamma Sutta||It is necessary to know what is for virtue and benefit and what is not for virtue and benefit -- and to fare onward according to what is for virtue and benefit. The following ten practices are not for virtue and benefit: 1. killing (paa.naatipaataa); is not for benefit but abstention from killing (paa.naatipaataa verama.nii) is; 2. stealing (adinnaadaanaa) is not for benefit but abstention from stealing (adinnaadaanaa verama.nii) is; 3. adultery (kaamesumicchaacaaraa) is not for benefit but abstention from adultery (kaamesumicchaacaaraa verama.nii) is; 4. telling lies (musaavaadaa) is not for benefit but abstention from telling lies (musaavaadaa verama.nii) is; 5. malicious gossip (pisu.naayavaacaaya) is not for benefit but abstention from malicious gossip (pisu.naayavaacaaya verama.nii) is; 6. harsh speech (pharusaayavaacaaya) is not for benefit but abstention from harsh speech (pharusaayavaacaaya verama.nii) is; 7. idle chatter (samphappalaapaa) is not for benefit but abstention from idle chatter (samphappalaapaa verama.nii) is; 8. covetousness (abhijjhaa) is not for benefit but right concentration abstention from covetousness (anabhijjhaa) is; 9. illwill (byaapada) is not for benefit but non-illwill (abyaapada) is, and; 10. false view (micchaa di.t.thi) is not for benefit but right view (sammaa di.t.thi). is; |
