A.10_069 Pa.thama Vatthukatha Sutta Some monks are engaging in aimless talk of kings, robbers, ministers, armies, panic, battle, food, drink, clothes, beds, flowers, garlands, perfumes, relatives, vehicles, villages, townships, cities, districts, women, champions, streets, gossip, ghost-stories, desultatory talk, fables about land and sea, prosperity and decay. The Buddha taught that topics of conversation suitable for monks are talk on: 1. wanting little [appiccha]; 2. contentment [santu.t.thi]; 3. seclusion [paviveka]; 4. solitude [asa.msagga]; 5. energetic striving [viriya]; 6. self-discipline [siila]; 7. concentration [samaadhi]; 8. wisdom [pa~n~naa]; 9. liberation [vimutti], and; 10. seeing and knowing of liberation [vimutti~naa.nadassana]. 38/215 Dasaka Nipaata, Dutiya Pa.n.naasaka A"nguttara A.i.
