Personal Characteristics: 1. having faith in the Buddha; 2. having strong health; 3. being free of boasting, pretence and secrets; 4. striving ceaselessly to overcome unwholesomeness and increase wholesomeness, and; 5. being wise. |
The amenable location should have the following five characteristics: 1. not too near or far, accessible, not busy by day, peaceful at night without noise, biting insects; 2. where the four requisites are provided; 3. teaching elder monks are close at hand to further the monks' studies; 4. student monks make the effort to study from the elder monks, and; 5. those elder monks are willing teachers.
