AN.IV.68 Devadatta Sutta The fame and fortune which Devadatta had managed to accrue by his evil deeds would eventually be at his own expense -- just as:
1. a banana tree's bearing fruit is an omen of its own death; 2. the appearance of shoots on a bamboo cane is an omen of its own death; 3. the appearance of flowers on an 'or' tree are an omen of the tree's own death, and; 4. a male foal (ma asadorn) is the omen of its own mother's death.
